Durante muchos años las esponjas de maquillaje fueron estas:

La destacada belleza de estas nuevas esponjas es la famosa Beauty Blender. Amada por casi todos los que la han probado y odiada por su precio carísimo ha logrado ser uno de esos poductos duplicado por doquier. El mundo está rebalsado de versiones genéricas de esta maravilla. 

The star of this new sponges is the famous Beauty Blender. Loved for almost everyone that have try it and hated for the high price it's one of those products with replicas everywhere! The world is full with dupes of this wonder!

Pero antes de explayarme sobre esto, voy a explicarles un poco su funcionamiento:

But before I talk more about this I will explain how does it works?

Las esponjas de maquillaje son ideales para aplicar bases líquidas, productos cremosos y hasta polvos. Dejan la piel sin marcas (cosa que puede pasar con algunas brochas de maquillaje y son perfectas para esfumar y fundir las bases con los correctores e iluminadores. 
Beauty sponges are ideal for applying liquid foundation, cream products and even some powders. It leaves the skin without marks (that can happend with some makeup brushes and it's perfect to blend foundations with concealers and highlighters)

Para usarlas correctamente hay que mojarlas, escurrirlas y usarla húmeda, de esta forma se inflan, se ponen más suaves y absorben menos producto lo que reduce el desperdicio del mismo. Asegurate de que la esponja llegue a su máxima absorción: la misma se va a ir agrandando a medida que absorbe agua y se escurre una y otra vez. Normalmente con 3 o 4 veces ya llega al tamaño y suavidad máxima.

To use it properly you need to wet it, squize it and use it damp and the sponge grows it size and it gets softer. This helps to the sponge to absorbe less product and minimize the waste. Make sure that the sponge it's in it's most absortion point: The sponge will be growing bigger each time it absorbs and squize water. In 3 or 4 times of doing this, it will reach it's bigger size and the softer point. 

Es necesario apretarla para sacar todo el exceso de agua y secarla un poco con una toalla para que quede húmeda y no mojada.
you need to squize all the excess water and dryit a little with a towel so it's only damp and not wet.

Y simplemente aplicamos en el rostro en forma de golpecitos. 
And we just apply the products on the face with some padding motion. 

En caso de usar varios productos cremosos para iluminar y hacer los contornos, podemos aplicarlos con los dedos u otros pinceles y luego esfumar todo con la esponja. También sirve para repasar el rostro cuándo no logramos una textura lisa con pincel
In case we use creamy products to iluminate and contour, we can apply them with our fingers or other brushes and then blend everything with the sponge. It's also good to buff all the face once we finish to achieve a seamless natural texture without the stripes some brushes leave. 

Bueno más allá de esto, ¿qué diferencia hay entre la original, las alternativas y otras versiones originales de otras marcas?
Beyond that, what's the difference between the original, the dupes without brand and the dupes of other brands?

• La forma: en general todas estas nuevas esponjas son en forma de gota, no planas pero entre ellas se diferencian por tener forma anatómica, o redondeada con una parte plana por ejemplo. Hay muchísima cantidad de variantes y si buscan por la web se darán cuenta. 
• The shape: in general all these new sponges have the shape of a drop, not flat but between them there are differences sucha as anatomic form or rounded with a flat side for example. There are too many options and if you search in the web you will see. 
• La textura: de las 4 que probé, ninguna tiene la misma textura que la otra pese a verse iguales. La suavidad de estas esponjas es lo que da una mejor terminación por ende es una lotería. Hasta no probarlas nunca sabremos si son o no buenas. El objetivo es que sean SÚPER suaves. 
• The texture: of the 4 I've tried none of them have the same texture than the other even if them look the same. The softness of these sponges is what gives a better finish so it's a lotery. Until you test them you can't tell if it's good or not. You need to reach to the softer one. 
• El tamaño: Estas esponjas crecen de tamaño cuando las mojamos. Esto las hace más suaves y evita que los productos sean absorbidos en gran cantidad. En mi experiencia con 1 de las genéricas no tuve buen resultado. Su tamaño no cambiaba, se mantenía áspera y más dura. Realmente fue un fiasco. En la foto es la última esponja (genérica #2). Como ven la esponja de al lado (genérica #1) es otra genérica mojada que si aumentó su tamaño (seca tiene el tamaño de la que genérica #2)
• The size: this sponges grow in size when wet. This makes it softer to the touch and it will avoid over absorption of the products we'll use. In my experience with one of the dupes I didn't have a good result. It size didn't changed and it was hard and rough. It was a total dissapointment. In the photo it's the last sponge (dupe #2). As you can see la sponge beside that (dupe #1) is another damp dupe that change it's size (dry was the size of dupe #2)

And there some cons too:

• No es fácil limpiarlas a fondo y que no queden con alguna manchita. Eso me hace pensar en si retienen o no restos como para considerarlas poco higiénicas. Creo que más que nada el problema radica en los tintes de las bases que en la limpieza en si de la esponja. Eso si, recomiendo lavarla siempre después de su uso: recuerden que se moja y se usa húmeda lo que la deja más propensa a tener bacterias. 
• It's not easy to clean them and leave it stain free. This makes me think about if it retains or not some product to considere them not much hygienic. I think the problem it's in the tints of the foundations and not in the sponge cleaning process. I do recommend to clean it after every use: remember it gets wet and you use it damp so it's more prone to grow bacteria. 
• La otra contra es que hay que cuidarlas mucho, especialmente al escurrirlas ya que sin darnos cuenta podemos clavarle las uñas y eso dañaría la superficie y reduciría su calidad y vida útil. Siempre hay que procurar apretarla suavemente.
• The other con is that you really need to take care of them specially when you squeeze it because you can damage it with a fingernail and that reduces the quality and life of the sponge. Always press them softly.
• Tienen una vida corta comparada a los pinceles. Los fabricantes dicen que tenes que cambiar tu esponja cada 3 meses. Si sos feliz con una copia, no es problema, pero si te gusta la Beauty Blender es un presupuesto! Yo tengo las mías desde hace más tiempo y siempre las lavo y dejo secar completamente al aire así puedo reducir el crecimiento de bacterias. Es escencial verificar en la esponja si hay pequeñas manchas oscuras o si cabia la textura. Si ven eso, es tiempo de cambiarlas.
• It has a short life compare to brushes. Every manufacterer says you need to change your sponge every 3 month! If you are happy with a dupe, that's not a problem, but if you like Beauty Blende that's a budget! I had mine for much longer because I always clean them and let them air dry completely so I can reduce bacteria. It's esencial to see if the sponge have little dark stains and if the texture change. If you see this, it's time for a change.

Más allá de eso, es un producto fantástico y creo yo, básico para usar a diario. A mi me encantan y dan una terminación muy suave y pareja.
Besides that it's a fantastic product and I think it's a basic for everyday use. I love them and it gives a even and softer finish.
